Wi-Fi monitoring for diagnostic purposes was the subject presented to the Midvale School trustees at Monday’s regular meeting. Wyebot, a company that provides the service with their own Wi-Fi engineers on staff, presented the details of their company’s involvement in the school system. It would be conducted from the end users perspective so problems with connectivity could be quickly seen. The cost is covered by E-rate which would pay 70 percent. The school would pay 30 percent, which is $12,500 for a five-year subscription, renewable at the same rate. The board approved the purchase of the subscription.

Also approved was a policy written by the Idaho School Board Association which addresses the latest legislative laws concerning any human sexuality subjects included in a teacher’s instruction. The policy includes a list of several subjects which will require an opt-in permission slip from the parents for the student to be in the class for that subject. If the student does not participate, an alternate assignment will be given. The policy will effect not only science classes, but also English literature classes and maybe even ag classes. The board approved the policy with the idea that permission slips would only be needed on a case-by-case basis. Traditionally Midvale school has avoided controversial sexuality subjects in its classrooms.

The drainage problem with the new pavement will be fixed with a less intrusive repair than first thought. The idea is to install a rock drain field on the end of the lawn next to the Vic Mann building.

The board approved the fuel bid submitted by Farmers Supply Coop. They also approved advertising for snow removal bids.

The school open house has been set for October 23 from 4-7. Parent teacher conferences will be held in the new gym with all teachers present there. Tours will be given of the new ag building and shop building by the ASB officers and FFA students. A light dinner will provided outside.

The wood shop has received a new CNC table, paid for by an earlier grant.

The next regular meeting will be October 27 at 7:00 p.m..
