CAMBRIDGE, Idaho — The City of Cambridge is proud to announce it has been awarded an Idaho Community Development Block Grant (ICDBG) in the amount of $245,000 to fund critical improvements to the Cambridge Midvale Goodrich Senior Center. The City is grateful for the partnership of Frontier Community Resources, which provided expert technical assistance in developing and submitting the competitive grant application. This award reflects the City’s commitment to preserving a vital community institution and improving quality of life for its senior residents.

The Cambridge Midvale Goodrich Senior Center was established following the passage of the Older Americans Act to meet the growing needs of an aging population. Today, seniors aged 60 and over make up 28.87% of Cambridge’s approximately 365 residents and the Center remains their hub for connection, care, and community.

Each week, the Center delivers essential services including meals, transportation, home care assistance, preventative health screenings, and home-delivered nutrition programs for residents aged 60 and over. Its community food pantry serves families across Cambridge, Midvale, Goodrich, and Indian Valley in both Washington and Adams Counties. Monthly shopping trips to Ontario, Oregon, and weekly trips to Council ensure that seniors many of whom live in a rural, isolated area roughly 100 miles northwest of Boise can access grocery stores, banks, pharmacies, and medical appointments.

The City partnered with Frontier Community Resources to document the need for renovation and build a competitive grant application. Frontier Community Resources provided comprehensive technical assistance throughout the ICDBG application process, ensuring the City’s submission effectively demonstrated the critical condition of the facility and the impact these improvements will have on the region’s most vulnerable residents.

The grant funds will be sub-awarded to the Cambridge Midvale Goodrich Senior Citizens organization to carry out a comprehensive renovation of the existing 3,350 sq. ft. facility and its adjacent 1,500 sq. ft. food pantry. With a total proposed construction budget of $249,500, the project scope includes:

• HVAC system upgrades

• Electrical system improvements

• New flooring, paint, windows, and doors

• Roofing replacement

• New commercial kitchen equipment, including a refrigerator and dishwasher

These renovations will extend the life of the facility, improve safety and comfort for seniors and staff, and ensure the Center can continue delivering essential services to one of Idaho’s most rural and underserved communities.

“This grant is a tremendous victory for our seniors and for our entire community. The Cambridge Midvale Goodrich Senior Center has been a lifeline for generations of residents, and these renovations will ensure it can serve many generations more. We are deeply grateful to the Idaho Department of Commerce for this investment in Cambridge and to Frontier Community Resources for their invaluable partnership in helping us secure it.”

— Mayor Mark Loveland, City of Cambridge

“The Cambridge Midvale Goodrich Senior Center is an extraordinary resource for a community that relies on it deeply. Frontier Community Resources is committed to helping Idaho’s rural communities access the funding they need to serve their most vulnerable residents. We are proud to have supported Cambridge in securing this investment and look forward to seeing the impact these renovations will have for years to come.”

—Dr. Michele McFarlane, Director of Community and Economic Development, Frontier Community Resources
