The Council Lions Club recently conducted our annual school vision screening, testing 97 youngsters at Council and New Meadows Elementary schools. We were unable to do Riggins this year due to time constraints and school schedules. We screen Kindergarten, First, Third, and Fifth grades plus any others the teachers feel should be tested.

Envision (formerly the Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation) loans the Council Lions the PlusOptix devices used. These devices only show a possible problem, which means the child should have a professional optometrist do further tests. We urge parents of students who have been identified for a vision referral to schedule a visit with an eye care specialist to verify their child’s visual condition. In the past this referral process has led to serious problems being detected by vision professionals.

Again, the Council Lions are aging as a group and some of us have difficulty getting around. If you are interested in assisting folks with vision screening, providing glasses for those who can’t afford them, and various community projects, please call (208) 253-0082.
