I’m writing from home this morning, so this will be a short column today. As you know, we had our Hells Canyon Days Taco Feed on Friday, June 5th, from 4 to 7:00 p.m. We served around 130 people. I think it was the best feed we have ever had! I’m not sure of the final calculations, but I think we will be able to add $1,000 to our matching funds project when all is said and done.
Of course, we couldn’t have done it without the help of so many people willing to volunteer their time to ensure that we had enough items chopped and ready to go, bowls refilled as people went through the line, dishes washed, trash removed, and cleanup afterward.
As I said before, I’m writing this from home on Monday, June 8th and my memory isn’t quite like it was in my 60’s, but here goes...”Thanks” for a job well done go to Delray Platt, Dana Munden, Elsa Freeman, Sandy Nudo, John and Vicki Danielson, George and Joan Mattor, Sandi and Dale Barton, Rex Hall, Lynda Yoder, Rick Wemmer, and Charlie Caruso. If I have forgotten anyone, please forgive this old woman for her memory lapses. I will catch up next week after I have had a chance to read my notes.
I had some excitement yesterday as I watched a smaller Black Bear (3 to 400 lbs) amble down my driveway into my front field. Which explained why my Feed can was broken into, and one of my remaining geese was killed on Saturday night.
The working theory around here is that it must have been a bear that was just out on its own, trying to find where it belonged. I haven’t seen it since yesterday, so I hope it’s heading for higher ground.
Menu: Wednesday, June 10th: Meatloaf, Baked Potato, Salad, wheat Roll, Peas, Apricots, and Strawberry Rhubarb Crisp. Friday, June 12th: Macaroni and Cheese, Stewed Tomatoes, Bran Muffins, Salad, Apricots and Dessert. Wednesday, June 17th: Chicken Fried Steak, Mashed Potatoes, and gravy, Green Beans, Garden Salad, Mixed Fruit, Wheat Roll, and Chocolate Pie.
