Teach and Learn the Constitution

Carolyn Kiesz, Midvale, ID
July 15, 2026

July 4th in Midvale was an awesome day, with a Patriotic parade (which many consider the BEST ever) to celebrate 250 years of the Declaration of Independence. Volunteers served a BBQ lunch in the park beneath giant shade trees planted three quarters of a Century ago. Many visitors and most local families were present.

Before eating, two elementary school girls performed a harmonic violin rendition of the Star Spangled Banner, followed by Midvale High’s History teacher who read quite a bit of the Declaration of Independence.

That evening, from our porch, we watched an incredible professional fireworks display put on by a local family. We’ve only lived here six years, but participating in these 4th of July festivities makes us realize we made the right move. On top of all that, the slogan this year was “The Right To Bear Arms.” Nothing could say it better for a grassroots American town.

We’ve been blessed to be born in the freest nation on earth, thanks to our Founding Fathers. Yet, it is apparent that many in our Nation do not know, or understand the importance of our U.S. Constitution, Bill of Rights and the Declaration of Independence. I urge everyone to take the time to read and study these documents. Once again, I’m reminded of Weiser’s Ralph Wilson and his dedication to teaching the Constitution. It is one of the most worthy efforts we can make, because there is strength and power in that knowledge and Ralph surely knew that.
