Donald Jack Hubbard

Donald Jack Hubbard passed away peacefully on April 7th at the hospital in Yuma, Arizona. He was born in Council, Idaho on May 13th 1938, the son of Bill and Maggie Hubbard. He grew up on the family ranch in New Meadows, Idaho where he graduated from Meadows Valley High School in 1956. Following graduation, he immediately began working as a laborer on the construction of the McCall Hospital for the Jordan-Wilcom Construction Company. He was encouraged to attend carpentry trade school and that fall he moved to Boise to attend Boise Junior College. While attending school he worked as an apprentice for Westcraft Industries, a division of Jordan-Wilcom Construction, to fund his education. He completed his Carpenter Apprenticeship certification in October 1960 and continued working as a journeyman carpenter for Westcraft Industries. While living in Boise he met his wife, Arlene Herring, and they were married on August 22nd, 1959. They had two children, Jeannette and Kenneth Hubbard while still residing in Boise. In September 1963, Jack formed a business partnership with his father and purchased the Denny Creek Ranch in Pollock, Idaho. He was only 25 years old. That same year he immediately built a home for his father and then built his own family home in Pollock. He then moved his family to Pollock as a rancher and also started his own construction company, Hubbard’s Cupboards. He built and remodeled many custom homes in the local area and was an expert carpenter and cabinet maker. He also managed his own building supply business and was responsible for several large concrete construction projects. While working as a carpenter/rancher he independently purchased two additional ranches in New Meadows where he pastured cattle and raised hay and grain. The size and scope of his farm and ranch operations eventually overtook his construction and building supply business and he became a dedicated cattleman. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, David and Delbert Hubbard and is survived by his sister, Winifred Overlander. He is also survived by his wife Arlene Hubbard along with their 2 children, 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. There will be a graveside memorial service May 30th, 2:00 p.m. at the New Meadow’s Cemetery followed by a catered reception at Ranch View Venue, 3523 South End Rd in New Meadows to share memories and celebrate his life.
