Ed was born on July 27, 1941, in Nampa, Idaho to Thomas Harrison and Effie Ethel Wood. He was born into a large family of eight half-brothers and sisters from his dad’s marriage to Lenora Davis who died in 1928 and one brother from his dad’s marriage to Effie Howard in 1937. Three other brothers were later born making the “Wood” family a total of 13 children. Ed attended public school, graduating from Meridian High School as their Valedictorian on May 18,1959. He was accepted at the University of Idaho where he pursued a career in electrical engineering. During his senior year, he lost interest in his studies and dropped out in December of 1964. Since he had a military deferment to attend college, Ed was soon drafted into the Army and sent to Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, for basic training.
Ed then received orders to report to Fort Ord, California where he taxied officers and other personnel around the base. As the Vietnam War escalated, he served as a trained driver of fifth-wheel supply rigs departing Oakland, California on the USS Barrett with approximately 1,500 troops bound for Vietnam. These drivers were needed to haul all kinds of supplies to other camps within 50 miles of their base camp. Ed served in this military role until he was discharged in September 1966.
During the fall of 1966, Ed worked briefly for Idaho Power Company in their Hells Canyon office. He calculated the quantities of concrete going into the Hells Canyon Dam, which was under construction at that time. During that fall, he also met Sharon Addicott who was one of the office clerks on the project.
Ed decided to return to the University of Idaho in January of 1967 to finish his electrical engineering degree. During the summer, he completed his studies and graduated with a BS degree in electrical engineering. Ed was hired for a position in Idaho Power’s Division Engineering Department in Boise. On August 13, 1967, Ed and Sharon were married in Boise at the Community of Christ church.
Ed obtained his electrical engineering license on January 31, 1975. He worked for Idaho Power for 31 years and retired from the company in December of 1999. During his time with Idaho Power, he held the positions of Engineering Supervisor, District Manager of Cambridge, and Power Quality Tech.
Ed had many interests: hunting elk, deer, ducks, pheasants, and grouse; fishing; woodworking; supporting BSU football; oil painting; photography; writing poems; cooking; and playing sports such as baseball, volleyball, basketball and bowling. He especially enjoyed supporting our children and grandchildren by cheering them on at their sport events and other activities throughout their school years. Ed was a member of the Community of Christ church in Boise, Idaho.
Ed is survived by his wife, Sharon, and their three children: Kalie Lynn Wood of Nampa, Idaho, Sherie Ann Moody-St.Clair of Meridian, Idaho, Thomas Walter Wood and his wife Cindy of Cambridge, Idaho. He is survived by his brothers: Ronald G (Washington), Gary Lee (Tollgate, Oregon), and Harry R (New Plymouth, Idaho). He is also survived by his grandchildren: Tomie Moody-St.Clair, Jesse Moody-St. Clair, Matthew Moody-St. Clair, Brendan Wood, Morgan Wood, Samantha Jensen, and Austin Jensen. He is survived by several other family members including multiple great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins, as well as many friends.
Services will be held on November 1, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Community of Christ Church located at 408 N Garden, Boise, ID 83706.
